RESEARCH

1993 - 1995 Professional Development Research
Researched the chemical properties of bone china porcelain; the use of sulfates on porcelain greenware; and the chemical composition of compatible glazes.

1989 - 1992 On-Site Study of Chinese Traditional and Folk Ceramics
Learned the wheelthrowing, trimming, and handbuilding techniques of master potters at the renowned ceramic sites of Jingdezheng, Yixing, and Yaozhou, China.
1984 - 1985 On-Site Study of Traditional Chinese Buddhist Sculpture
Studied the Yungang Stone Grottos in Datong, Shanxi, China and the Longmen Stone Grottos in Luoyang, Henan, China.

1981 - 1983 Professional Research of Chinese Folk and Classical Art
Researched and documented the pottery and embroidery of the Dai, Bai, and Yi Minorities of Yunan, China; and the folk arts of papercutting, stone carving, pottery, and embroidery of Gansu, Ningxia, and Shaanxi, China. Researched Tang Dynasty tomb paintings in Shaanxi, China; and Shang and Zhou Dynasty bronzes of Shaanxi, China.
